Microneedling in Columbus, Ohio
Collagen is an important part of young skin. Unfortunately, as we get older, our bodies produce less collagen. Downtown Dermatology offers collagen-boosting microneedling treatments to men and women in the Greater Columbus area.
What is Microneedling?
Microneedling uses the body’s healing process to stimulate collagen development. Collagen is important for healthy, beautiful skin because it acts as a support structure. As you age, your body produces less collagen. Over time, the skin slowly collapses and develops lines and wrinkles. Microneedling works by creating micro perforations in the skin. Your body senses the injury and triggers collagen production.
Microneedling Benefits
Our patients choose microneedling as part of their anti-aging treatments for the following benefits:
- Uses the body’s natural healing process to reduce signs of aging
- No foreign substances are required
- Quick improvements to skin tone and texture
- No downtime
- Results are long-lasting with good skin care and sun protection
Where Can Microneedling Be Applied?
Microneedling is proven effective for treating the signs of aging that appear on your face and body, such as:
- Hyperpigmentation
- Wrinkles
- Stretch marks
- Acne scars
- Skin that has little to no elasticity
- Large pores
How is Microneedling Administered?
Downtown Dermatology performs microneedling treatments with DermaPen®. At the beginning of the treatment, we apply a topical numbing cream to the area. The DermaPen® is used to create very tiny micro-injuries in the skin. The microneedling process triggers a tingling sensation that many patients find very relaxing.
DermaPen®
DermaPen® is the first cosmetic instrument designed specifically for microneedling treatments. Dr. Hicks-Graham prefers DermaPen® over other microneedling instruments because:
- The disposable needles are replaced after each treatment to reduce the risk of infection
- Microneedling sessions are shorter
- The instrument is designed to reduce patient discomfort
- Needle depth can be customized to the patient
- Results are superior when compared to chemical peels and laser treatments
Microneedling Procedure Preparation
We recommend that you avoid sun exposure for three weeks before your appointment. The morning of your microneedling treatment, please do not use moisturizers, makeup or other products on the treatment area.
Microneedling Procedure Recovery
Your skin may be swollen and red for up to four days after your microneedling appointment. Once these symptoms subside, you will see the initial results of the treatment. Your skin continues to improve as your body produces more collagen.
How Much Does Microneedling Cost?
Microneedling treatments are considered elective by your medical insurance. As such, you are responsible for the cost. Payment can be made by cash, check, major credit card or CareCredit® financing.
Is Microneedling Right for Me?
Finding the right cosmetic dermatology treatments for your skin takes the skilled eye of a dermatologist. In the Greater Columbus area, men and women rely on the expertise of board-certified dermatologist Dr. Shari Hicks-Graham to determine if microneedling is right for them.
